Famous for its marine sanctuary, Balicasag Island is one of the main diving and snorkeling sites not only in the Philippines but also in the whole world. It is a 1.5 acre of land surrounded by pristine waters and a good habitat of marine life.
Balicasag Island is located southwest of the islands of Bohol and Panglao. It is about 30 to 45 minutes boat ride (motorized outrigger) from Alona Beach in Panglao Island, noted for its fine white sand beaches comparable to Boracay.
For those who want to visit Balicasag Island, you may avail a cheap Bohol tour package because the island is usually part of the itinerary of an Island Hopping Tour.
Because of the size of Balicasag Island, you can explore it in just 30 to 45 minutes. There are a few families that live in the island and their main source of income is by offering their foods and services to guests who visit their place. There is a lighthouse tower located in the middle of the island surrounded by bougainvilleas and palm trees. Weaving and fishing are also part of the livelihood in the island.
The shallow area offers a great view of the different marine species, including corals and countless number of colorful fishes. About a hundred meters away from the shoreline, after the shallow area, there is an instant drop or cliff, which really makes your heart pump faster after you suddenly reach the place while snorkeling.
There is only one resort found in Balicasag Island. They offer diving amenities and training at a standard PADI’s price.
For those who want to stay overnight at the island of Balicasag, you can rent a bungalow or cottage for only P1,800 per night.
